Stratford Circus arts centre and the New London Orchestra are pleased to
announce that with effect from the beginning of the 2010-2011 concert season,
the New London Orchestra is to become the first-ever orchestra-in-residence
at Stratford Circus in the London Borough of Newham. The New London
Orchestra will participate in ‘Upfront East’, Stratford Circus’ adult artistic
programme, as well as its artistic programme for young children called
‘Stratford Circlets’.
The New London Orchestra’s programming and artistic output is expected to
be unusual, engaging and challenging, while remaining accessible and
affordable for local people. New music will be commissioned, and known
repertoire will be presented in new and accessible ways.
The orchestra’s first season of concerts is scheduled to include music by
Bernard Herrmann, Howard Blake, Sergei Prokofiev and others, while concerts
in later seasons is likely to include music by Nitin Sawhney, Beethoven,
Gustav Holst, David Del Tredici, Naresh Sohal, Rory Boyle, Stravinsky and
Vivaldi.
The Orchestra’s appointment as orchestra-in-residence at Stratford Circus
confirms its long-term commitment to east London, particularly to the London
Borough of Newham, one of the host Boroughs for the London 2012 Olympic
Games and one of the UK’s most deprived areas.
The Director of Stratford Circus, Clare Connor said: “We are very excited by
the opportunity to work in collaboration with New London Orchestra to bring
new programmes to audiences in east London.” while Ronald Corp, the New
London Orchestra’s founder and Artistic Director said “this is a new adventure
for us, and we look forward to working at Stratford Circus”.
