The Littlest Quirky

Stratford Circus is collaborating with young people’s theatre company Theatre Centre to support the development of a new piece of children’s theatre by emerging writer Naomi Cortes.

In January we brought together six artists from various disciplines to work together for four days.  They explored and collaborated on this original piece of writing which culminated in a sharing of selected scenes.

Pitter Patter Girl is a pioneering and fun adventure of self discovery, magic, circus and theatre for children of all ages and their families.

The Quirkies are a peculiar looking family, who hide away from the world of out there. But one day the littlest Quirky, Pitter Patter Girl, appears and is determined to see what is on the other side of the enormous locked and bolted front door.
With the assistance of kind-hearted Tree, blustery Wind and rushing Rain, Pitter Patter Girl escapes from the Quirkies to a world of vivid patterns, vibrant colours and intriguing sounds.

You see, once upon a time they were circus folk
Who looked very different to you and to me

Oh yes, they had eyes, ears and noses on their faces
But they looked so strange, they were in different places

But these Quirkies were fun, they danced and played games
And sang funny songs about all of our names

They would swing on the trapeze and dance the high wire
They would stand on their hands and juggle with fire

Theatre Centre will commission the piece for a new production and tour in 2011.
