Dance in the move-me booth and become video art at move-me.com
This high energy dance booth is free and available to any member of the public, participants simply step inside and follow the instructions, then add some imagination, wit, and best dance moves! The experience doesn’t stop there, you can also log onto www.move-me.com to view your own piece and other people’s performances. Some of dance’s most eclectic artists - Rafael Bonachela, Nigel Charnock, Jonzi D, Deborah Hay, Shobana Jeyasingh, New Art Club, Stephen Petronio and Kirstie Simson – are the choreographers taking part. Their styles range from hip-hop and improvisation through dance comedy to metrosexual dance politics and 21st century multi-cultural contemporary dance. Now they have created choreography for anyone who wants to have a go. Jonzi D (Breakin’ Convention) has a long association with East London Dance, having hosted a range of events at Stratford Circus, such as the brilliant Small Dances in 2006. Once participants have stepped inside, they can do a solo by their favourite choreographer or they can choose to create their own dance for the camera. There are a variety of ways to experience the move-me booth - from having a laugh with your friends to quiet curiosity or serious dance practice. The move-me booth records the performances which are then uploaded on to the website at move-me.com to create an ever-growing gallery of video dances. Since move-me began in February this year, there have been 70,000 visitors to the website and 270,000 video downloads. The site has also won many awards including a prestigious FWA Award and Netscape’s Cool Site of the Day. Move-me is co-produced by Goat and Ricochet Dance Productions from an original idea by Simon Fildes and Katrina McPherson.
