Featuring Dele Sosimi, Funmi Olawumi and Juwon Ogungbe and Kunle Olasoju’s Naija Rhythm Orchestra.
Naija Groove is a special one-off project that brings three outstanding singers (Juwon Ogungbe, Dele Sosimi and Funmi Olawumi) and a host of guests to join forces with the mighty 10-piece Naija Rhythm Orchestra lead by guitarist Kunle Olasoju to tear up the dance floor in celebration of 20 years of Joyful Noise, the producers of the annual London African Music Festival.
The three singers embody the widest cross-section of Nigerian music, hence Naija (slang for Nigeria). Dele Sosimi lives and breathes afrobeat as he was for many years the pianist of choice for Fela Kuti and Femi Kuti. Juwon Ogungbe is a pianist-singer who has work extensively in both African and classical music. Funmi Olawumi is the leader of the Yoruba Women Choir and one of the finest Yoruba singers on the scene today.
Kunle Olasoju, the director of the Naija Rhythm Orchestra, is a guitarist of pure class. The former member of Femi Kuti’s Positive Force has performed and recorded with Who's Who in Nigerian music like Chief Ebenezer Obey and Queen Salawa Abeni to name just two.
Expect an unpredictable spectacle with the infectious rhythms of the talking drum driving spell-binding rhythmic grooves of immense power.
